Madeline Finchum is a Program Manager with Communities in Schools of Central Texas. She graduated with her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and earned a Master of Social Work degree from Texas State University. She works to empower students to implement social and emotional skills that will support their overall well-being.

About Oliver Smith,
Oliver was born and raised at Prairie View A & M University. He earned a BS and MS in Civil Engineering and Business Administration at Michigan State University. Oliver served as an officer in the US Army Corps of Engineers (Active Duty and Reserve Duty) and was promoted to the rank of Captain during his service tenure. He served as a civil and construction engineer for Exxon Company USA, BASF Corporation, Frito Lay, CH2M Hill, and completed his career at 3M Company in engineering, manufacturing, and global supply chain leadership roles. He has received an award for Meritorious Achievement from the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works, and recognition as Volunteer of the Year at 3M Company. Oliver co-published a technical paper that was presented to the Project Management Institute. He is active in the Central Texas Rotary International organization and is assisting with the conduct of the public outreach activities of the Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers as their efforts to address the reinforcement of the infrastructure continues.

About Time Rogers and Texas Performing Arts,
Tim Rogers is the Director of Education and Engagement for Texas Performing Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. Originally from the St. Louis area, Rogers has Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Composition and Music Theory from the University of Missouri at Columbia, a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Masters Degree in Education Policy Studies from the University of Maryland at College Park. In his role at Texas Performing Arts, he combines his educational background in music and education policy to help create lasting learning experiences for students and community members of all ages.
Outside of his work at TPA for the past 11 years, Rogers enjoys spending time with his wife and cats, playing piano, going to Disney World, growing hot peppers, and planning and attending trivia nights. Texas Performing Arts (TPA) is the professional arts presenting and producing program of The University of Texas at Austin. One of the largest and most active university-based performing arts centers in the U.S., TPA is an anchor institution in Austin’s arts, cultural, and entertainment scene. TPA operates venues on the UT campus including Austin’s largest theater, Bass Concert Hall. Its public programs include Broadway in Austin; a curated season of international dance, theater, and music; and presentations of national touring artists. TPA is an integral unit of UT’s College of Fine Arts and engages students across the university in creative experiences.

Jett Hanna is a lifelong Texan and an Austin Resident since 1980 when he moved here to get his law degree from UT. He is board-certified in Commercial Real Estate Law and has served on the Travis Central Appraisal District Board. He is currently a member of the Texas Supreme Court Professional Ethics Committee. He also volunteers with the Del Valle Correctional Facility chaplain’s office to facilitate meditation and helps with local hospital emergency communications as an amateur radio operator.

JoAnn Carreon Reyes was a classroom educator in public schools in Austin for over 20 years. After that time, her role shifted to educator professional development work for both Austin ISD the University of Texas at Austin. In the last 13 years her focus shifted to social emotional learning as a certified mindfulness facilitator and yoga instructor. She currently teaches mindfulness in Austin public schools to students, parents and educators for the Amala Foundation.
The Amala Foundation inspires people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with themselves and others, grow as individuals, and serve as conscious leaders in their communities. Amala Foundation sessions seek to build a culture of wellbeing, safety and belonging, which is critical to the success of any organization, program or community. Our sessions focus on social emotional learning, mindfulness and self care practices that foster healthy thriving communities.

The International Boundary and Water Commission, United States and Mexico, is responsible for applying the boundary and water treaties between the two countries and settling differences that arise in their application. The Commission operates and maintains flood control levees, international storage reservoirs, diversion dams, wastewater treatment plants, and boundary monuments at various locations on the U.S.- Mexico border.

About Dr. Maria-Elena Giner, P.E.,
Dr. Maria-Elena Giner, P.E., Commissioner, United States International Boundary and Water Commission President Joe Biden in August 2021 appointed Maria-Elena Giner to serve as the United States Commissioner of the International Boundary and Water Commission, United States and Mexico. Dr. Giner, the second woman and first Latina to hold the post. She previously served as General Manager of the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC), an institution that developed environmental infrastructure along the U.S.- Mexico border in association with the North American Development Bank. During her tenure at the BECC, she focused on policies that addressed U.S.- Mexico cooperation on water, energy, and climate change. With the support of the BECC staff, she led the development and financing of $9 billion in environmental infrastructure, benefiting about 100 communities and over 10 million residents. Dr. Giner is well regarded among state agencies and local communities in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and the six Mexican border states. In addition, she has published extensively on water policy and transboundary bilateral cooperation. Dr. Giner’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Loyola Marymount University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Texas at Austin. She is also a registered professional engineer, first-generation college graduate, and daughter of an immigrant. Dr. Giner is from the border region and attended Loretto Academy High School in El Paso, Texas. She is bicultural and bilingual.

With 17 years of dedicated service in Law Enforcement, Lt. De Leon oversees the efficient operations of the Deputies and manages public relations for the Travis County Constable’s Office, Precinct 2. Beyond his daily responsibilities, he is a passionate advocate for community policing and holds a certification as a Crime Prevention Specialist.
He channels his energy into fostering the next generation's interest in public safety as a mentor for young adults. Currently, he serves as the President of a 501c3 organization, Public Safety Cadet Unit 711, dedicated to shaping the future of aspiring individuals in the field. Michael’s commitment to community service is further exemplified by his involvement in various non-profit boards, such as The Austin Diaper Bank. His journey in law enforcement is not just a career; it's a calling. About Gus Bova,
Gus Bova is the interim editor-in-chief of the Texas Observer. In 2016, he joined the Observer as an intern, later becoming a staff writer and an assistant editor. He has covered immigration, homelessness, labor, politics, and other major Texas stories. Before coming to the Observer, he worked at a shelter for recently arrived immigrants and asylum-seekers. He studied Latin American Studies at the University of Kansas.
The Texas Observer is a nonprofit news outlet and print magazine covering the Lone Star State. What is the Classification Talk? Each new Rotary member or transferee is asked to give a "classification talk" after they have been in our Club for 1 - 6 months. You were assigned a classification when you joined relating to your business and position. This is your chance to tell members about yourself and your business. It shouldn't be a big chore because you should already know all the answers. Please make this Classification Talk your own and truly representative of you.

About Anita Sigler,
She received a degree in Education from the University of Mississippi and a Master's in Library Science from Sam Houston State. Anita was the head coach of a 5A high swim team and completed a Half-Ironman Triathlon. She had lived all over the world and settled in Austin ten years ago. Her son, Ansel, works in Computer Science in Utah and her daughter, Katie is finishing her PhD in Bio-Archaeology in wales.
As a great friend of this club she works in our parking project

About Amy Bawcom,
Amy Bawcom is Executive Director of the Austin Community College Foundation. She directs and administers the overall planning and activities of the ACC Foundation, including donor development, direct fundraising, capacity building, Board development, oversight of the ACC Foundation Board, and a $13 million endowment.
Ms. Bawcom has an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Baylor University; B.S. in Business Administration and a second B.S. in English with secondary teaching certification from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. In addition, she has completed post-graduate study in English from Baylor University and in higher education administration from both Baylor and UMHB.
Before coming to ACC, Amy was the Vice President for Development at San Marcos Academy, leading the Foundation, Alumni Relations, and all aspects of development from capital campaigns and events to major gifts. Prior to that role, she worked at Central Texas College as Executive Director of the Foundation and Director of College Development where she managed an $8M endowment and developed strategies for planned giving. She has also served as the Director of Foundation Relations and as a Major Gift Officer at the Scott and White Healthcare Foundation. At both Central Texas College and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, she served the colleges in several administrative roles, including registrar, institutional research, and institutional effectiveness. She began her career teaching college English and ESL at both Baylor and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a summer at a community college in Japan.
Amy is a long-time Rotarian, having served in numerous officer and district positions. She was on the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce Board, serving as Chair of Young Professionals, Chair of the Education Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Nonprofit Council. She was the board president of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Central Texas and a founding member of the Belton Young Professionals. She has served as a board member for Texas Association of Community College Foundations, the Robert S. Love Foundation, and Central Texas Advocates for Parkinson’s. Amy takes the Rotary motto of Service Above Self to heart by serving her community as a volunteer to many charities centered around education.

About Monica Simmons,
Monica’s early career experiences after graduating with a B.A. in Communications include working at UPS, as a licensed insurance agent, and at the University of Missouri School of Nursing Department of Research where she helped prepare NIH grants. Returning to school to pursue a career in nursing, Monica became a Registered Nurse with a Certification in Pediatric Nursing and then completed a master’s degree in Leadership in Health Care Organizations. She has worked in health care for over 18 years, primarily in hospital settings such as Boston Children’s Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital, where she gained both pediatric clinical competency and leadership experience. Recognizing a gap in our healthcare system, in 2021, along with co-founder Dr. Claire Hebner, Monica started the nonprofit Lirios Pediatrics where she now works as Executive Director. When not at work Monica enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, and with spending time her husband, Joe and their dogs Henri and Sheba.

On Monday, July 8th at 6:30 PM, we will hold an in person club meeting, our speaker will be Michael Meigs, who is the Production Coordinator at Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Austin.
Entertaining and educating Texas audiences since 1976, Gilbert & Sullivan Austin is dedicated to spreading the topsy-turvy humor and joyful music of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. GSA is known for its highly acclaimed annual Summer Grand Productions (performed in June) from the G&S repertoire. These productions are fully staged and performed with a live orchestra. Monday’s program will tentatively include a live performance from some of the G&S repertoire. Our meeting will be held at Shoal Creek Saloon, located at 909 N. Lamar Blvd. This will be a very interesting program, we encourage you to invite family, friends, and colleagues to join us.
About Michael Meigs,
Michael Meigs served as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State before retiring to Austin. He’s been on the Gilbert & Sullivan Austin board since 2010 and currently serves as production coordinator and bursar. When he is not focused on G&S, Michael does literary translations into English from French, German, Spanish, and Swedish. He was awarded the translation prize of the American Translators Association in 2019, and his work was shortlisted for Spain's Queen Sofia Translation Prize in 2022..

About David Tobey,
Our long time member, David Tobey, will be speaking. David is a ear, nose, and throat doctor along with doing surgery in those areas. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas in Galveston, completed his internship in Boston and residency in general surgery and otolaryngology at the University of Washington in Seattle. David served the US military in the US Public Health Service, Commissioned Corps, in Seattle and at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Houston. David developed an interest in Astronomy and will be speaking on Astronomy and showing us pictures he has taken with his digital telescope.
His pictures are great and we will get to see a digital telescope.

The mission of Evergreen Life Services is to serve, provide for, and champion individuals with disabilities, teaching them life skills so that everyone has the opportunity to reach their greater potential. Our speaker will introduce ELS and explain why it is important to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Cathey Crow is the Chief Development Officer for Evergreen Life Services, working from the Corporate Office in Haughton, LA. She has been with Evergreen for 13 years. In her role, she raises awareness of the Evergreen mission and advocates for the nearly 1,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities served in seven states. Cathey coordinates and manages donor relations and fundraising activities to fund quality programs that teach life skills, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to reach their greatest potential.
