Our club president, Chris Kaiser, has joined the Peace Corps and will be leaving Austin in October to go to Vietnam to teach English. In honor of Chris as president, parking project head, Rotarian and generally good guy, Tarik is hosting a party in his honor. The entree (Barbecue) will be provided, but this is a pot luck, so we ask that every guest bring something to the party. You can also RSVP thru the registration link on the email sent to club members and guests. Also, please send an email to Tarik at bakirt@gmail.com to indicate what you are bringing. Sep 23, 2024 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
On Monday, September 23rd at 6:30 PM, we will hold an in person club meeting, our speaker will be Julie Sanford and John Pozdro.
Since 1977, Austin's Lifetime Learning Institute (LLI) has provided diverse and interesting non-credit courses to adults 50 and older. Talented instructors, inquisitive students, and convenient locations make it the best bargain in town! LLI is an independent, nonprofit, all-volunteer organization comprised of students, instructors, and volunteer staff. A program of approximately 70 courses is offered to about 1000 students twice yearly during the spring and fall semesters.
Julie Sanford and John Pozdro are here to share information about the Lifetime Learning Institute of Austin, LLI, one of Austin's great, homegrown gems. It is NOT affiliated with U.T., but is an independent not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization providing learning opportunities for older residents all over town. This has been going on for over 47 years, but many people do not know about it. They're going to tell us how it works and how we might participate in it. Our meeting will be held at Shoal Creek Saloon, located at 909 N. Lamar Blvd. This will be a very interesting program, we encourage you to invite family, friends, and colleagues to join us.
About Dr. Julie Sanford and Mr. John Pozdro,
Dr. Sanford is a retired science educator, researcher and university administrator. She got her doctorate from U.T. Austin and worked at U.C. Berkeley, U.T. Austin, the U. of Maryland College Park, and U.T. El Paso. She is LLI's program coordinator, a teacher of Spanish, a perennial student, and is currently serving as president.
Mr. Pozdro is a retired software engineering manager who has recently joined LLI as the equipment coordinator and is helping update LLI's information technology. This year, he has stepped up to the vice president role. Like Julie, he is, above all, an enthusiastic LLI student. About Rotary Club of Austin University Area:
