On Monday, December 2nd at 6:30 PM, we will hold an in person club meeting, our speaker will be Dr. Scott Aaronson. He will speak on all things AI and the implications of quantum computing now and, perhaps more importantly, in the future.

Our meeting will be held at Shoal Creek Saloon, located at 909 N. Lamar Blvd. This will be a very interesting program, we encourage you to invite family, friends, and colleagues to join us.

About Dr. Scott Aaronson,

He is a theoretical computer scientist and Schlumberger Centennial Chair of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. His primary areas of research are computational complexity theory and quantum computing. He was awarded the 2020 ACM Prize in Computing "for groundbreaking contributions to quantum computing". Dr. Aaronson is also a founder of the Complexity Zoo wiki, which catalogs all classes of computational complexity.

Special Board Meeting on Grant Spending

Based on my projection, we are on a trajectory to spend more in grants than we are bringing in

from the parking project. Facts are:

We have approved $25,000 in bespoke grants so far

We are spending more per grant on newer grants ($5000)

We typically spend $35,000 on recurring grants (back of the envelope calculation).

we have requests in for another $25,000 and we usually see more grants in January thru June

our parking project revenue is higher this year (increase in amount we charge) but we have lost Medical Arts Square starting on the Kentucky game and moving forwards

We have a large amount of money in our CDs

We have had discussions in the past about drawing down the CDs so we can give out more grants, but I don't

believe we have had an actionable and approved plan to do so.

This merits a greater discussion beyond what we can have at the our regular board meeting. I plan on freezing review of all of the new grant requests except for the nursing one until we have a special board meeting on grants.
